This evening we had a “changing of the guard”, if you will, as our parish’s Knights of Columbus Council 10596 had the Installation of Officers for this fraternal year.
The Knights of Columbus are all about charity. They have involved themselves in more charitable causes in the Church than any other organization that I can think about. They consider themselves the strong right arm of the Church and they prove that over and over again.
Several years ago, you may remember that the entire outside of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome had been refurbished. Scaffolding surrounded that massive structure for a couple of years while work on the exterior was completed. That entire project was funded by the Knights of Columbus.
When disaster strikes, you can count on organizations like the Salvation Army and Red Cross coming to people’s aid. Did you know that you can also count on the Knights of Columbus?
Locally, the Knights of Columbus funds organizations that help other-abled individuals. Their financial support matches their emotional and physical support of those organizations. You can count on their man hours of volunteering just as much as you can count on their monetary support.
Here at the parish, they provide financial support as well as volunteer in all sorts of areas from the parish festival to being ushers at our weekend Masses.
I thank God for the gift of the Knights of Columbus in general and of the members of our parish council in particular. Congratulations to the officers for the 2017-2018 Fraternal Year. I pledge you my support, gratitude, and admiration!
