Finally Did The Smart Thing

Today was going to be a back-breaker day for me.  I had the school Mass at 8:30 a.m.  At 10:30 a.m., Mass for the deceased bishops, priests, and deacons of the Diocese of Gary took place at Holy Angels Cathedral.  After the Mass was lunch at the Cathedral.  After lunch, the Priests’ Council met at the cathedral rectory.  After the Priests’ Council, the Diocesan Consultors met.

I was to leave the Consultors meeting no later than 3:00 p.m. because I had a 4:00 p.m. wedding back at the parish.

Now, all of this is taking place, mind you, while I am recovering from bronchitis.  I am weak and tired and the weather is definitely not helping me at all.

So, what was the smart thing to do, you ask?  Well, at 10:00 a.m., I texted the bishop and the vicar general and told them that I was not going to be at the Mass or the meetings because I needed to stay home and rest.

Yes.  Me.  Rest.

That’s the smart thing to do; but, I am not known for doing the smart thing very often.  However, because I did, I was refreshed and ready for the wedding this afternoon for my parishioners.  I’m glad that I did the right thing.

Now, however, I would like to ask you to join me in prayer for the deceased bishops, priests, and deacons of the Diocese of Gary.  May God bless them for their ministry to His people!
