Michael Row The Boat Ashore

Wowzers.  I just could not believe the weather the past couple of days.  Last night, as I was going to the school building from the house for the evening performance of Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr., I had to dodge all sorts of pools of water.  Today was not much better.  Water all over the place.  But, hey, at least the parish is on “high ground” so we do not have to worry about flooding issues like some of the others in our community and Northwest Indiana are doing.

You know the old phrase, “Neither rain nor snow nor sleet nor hail…”  That was applied to the postal carriers of old.  Today, I saw a different group living out that motto.  Throughout the day, the members of our parish’s Knights of Columbus worked on unpacking their Christmas trees, wreathes, and garland and setting up the yard.  It was cold and wet work; but, they got it done.  Way to go, Knights!  For your information, their sale begins this coming Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.  That first day, trees usually begin whisking off the lot as many come for the “best pick” of the trees.  I always love this time of year because the grounds smell like a forest with all the Christmas trees adding to the air.

The elves were busy on the other end of our property this morning as well.  Many members of our St. Vincent de Paul Society were busy passing out Thanksgiving baskets to those who had registered for them.  Many people in need will have a wonderful Thanksgiving meal this year because of the hard work of our volunteers, the generosity of many parishioners, and the additional generosity of some local businesses who contribute goods to the good pantry for this most-needed event.

The final note, tomorrow is the last day for you to see Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr.  It begins at 2:00 p.m.  Doors open at 1:30 p.m.  The students have done a fantastic job once again.  If you have not had a chance to come out and support them, please consider doing so tomorrow.
