One of the slogans that made an impact on me when I was very young was the simple phrase, “If you can read this, thank a teacher.” When I first saw that, I thought, and thought, and thought. And then, I said, “Oh. Yes. Teachers teach reading!” And it prompted me to think about everything else that teachers taught: math, science, social studies and the like.
Then, it got me to thinking about all the additional things that teachers taught: honesty, manners, respect, et cetera.
Teachers teach a plethora of things. They are the anchors of society. We would be adrift without them and their gentle love.
Teachers, on this special day, I say a heartfelt Thank You. You taught me so much and I hope that I have put what you have taught to good use.
