Probably one of the hardest things that any of us can do is to forgive. If we find it within ourselves to forgive once, that is hard enough. However, the past couple of days, the scriptures have reminded us at Mass that we are called to forgive over and over again, perfectly, just as God forgives us.
I’m all for that. However, I also know the struggle to forgive. There have been people in my life that I have found incredibly difficult to forgive. Just like anyone else, I find it hard to forgive again and again. That is why our Taize Prayer Service this evening was so important to me. One of the songs, “God Is Forgiveness” really spoke to me. It reminded me, as the scriptures of the past couple of days have done, that if I forgive, God is there. “God is forgiveness. Dare to forgive and God will be with you. God is forgiveness. Love, and do not fear.”
Preaching about forgiveness is one thing. Actually doing it myself is quite another. I guess I still have a long way to go. Thank God for Lent. 🙂
