The Strife Is O’er, The Battle Done

Those words have a lot of meaning.  Primarily, of course, they reflect Christ’s victory over sin and death.  For those of us who have to “do” Holy Week all the services contained therein, though — priests, musicians, choirs, church decorators, servers, et cetera — we all feel like we’ve been through a battle by the last Mass of Easter.

I wrote some friends today that, this afternoon, after I locked and alarmed the church, my feet were barking at me and I felt as if I had been beaten up by an angry mob and dragged through the streets.  I am so looking forward to going to bed early and, even more, getting a good night’s sleep.  The past couple of nights have been spotty at best in the sleep department.

But, you know what, it is all so worth it.  After all, we celebrate the victory of Jesus Christ has won for each and every one of us.  He is risen as He said.   Alleluia, Alleluia!
