Mother’s Day And Mom’s Death Anniversary

Every few years, my mom’s death anniversary falls on Mother’s Day and it gives me a different perspective on the day as well as gives me the opportunity to empathize with other parishioners who have also lost their mothers already.

My mom died on this day in 1994.  At that time, I was very happy for her.  She had been suffering from Lou Gehrig’s Disease (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis – ALS) and her death was a release from the anxious moments she had fighting for breath.  However, as much as a person can be relieved for another’s death, there is still a longing to see that person again, just one more time, here on earth.

I know that I will not have that; but, I also believe that I will have the chance to see her again when God calls us all to Himself.  I just hope I “make the grade” so that I will be able to be with her. 🙂

To all mothers, Happy Mother’s Day!  To all of you who grieve the loss of your mothers, my sincere prayers go out to you!
