Damn The Torpedoes

“Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!”  That is a phrase that has been attributed to Admiral David Farragut during the Battle of Mobile Bay.  For what it’s worth, I think it’s “smoother” verbiage than the original, “Damn the torpedoes! Four bells. Captain Drayton, go ahead! Jouett, full speed!”  Either way, we know that “damn the torpedoes” usually means that we are throwing caution to the wind and doing something dangerous.

Have you ever done that?  Have you ever known that something was going to be bad for you, maybe even hurtful, and you did it anyway?  You embraced the words of Admiral Farragut and said, “Damn the torpedoes, I’m doing this!”

Well, that is exactly the position that I find myself in right now.  It is 5:09 p.m. and I am sitting on my deck, working on my laptop, and enjoying the view and, literally, throwing caution to the wind.

Is this bad?  Will this hurt me?  More than likely.  Because, as beautiful as the day is, the breezes are blowing allergens and mold through the air and I’m sitting here sucking in great quantities of the stuff.  Tonight, I will be scratching my eyes out and coughing to a raw throat.  And you know what I say?  Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead.  I’m sitting on my deck and enjoying the evening! 🙂

So, I will wave this blog post and then get to work on tomorrow daily reflection and from there, who knows what I’ll do.  But it will most likely be done on the back deck of my house!
