The Last Week

Someone asked me at Mass earlier today, “Is this the last week of school?”  I looked at the person and said, “Yep.”  As they walked away, something hit me right between the eyes.  It isn’t the last week.  Good God.  It’s the last two days!  That’s right.  There are only two days of school left.  Tomorrow is a holiday to observe Memorial Day.  Tuesday, the students have a “fun and field day”.

Wednesday will see our last all-school Mass after which the Kindergarten class graduates.  After their graduation, I have to go to Hartsfield Assisted Living to celebrate Mass for the residents.  I will return to the parish for a 12:00 Noon funeral Mass.  School dismisses for the summer at 3:00 p.m.  And then, Wednesday evening, we celebrate a Baccalaureate Mass and Graduation for our Eighth Grade class.  Phew.  Wednesday is going to be a busy day.

But that’s it.  Tuesday and Wednesday comprise our “last week” of school.  Thursday, the second Mass of the day will move to the chapel where it will remain throughout the summer since school will not be in session.  I ask myself, “How did this get here so soon?”  It does not seem possible that we can be at the end of May.  Yet, here we are.  Oh well, I guess I’d just better fasten my seat belt because after Wednesday, summer is going to fly.

Saturday will be ordinations at Holy Angels Cathedral and the first half of June will see us preparing for our annual festival.  After the festival, we prepare to say goodbye to Fr. Andrew who leaves for retirement and hello to the newly ordained who has been assigned as the associate pastor at the parish.

Busy, busy, busy.  I have always said, “But that’s okay.  I like busy.”  Hmmm.  I’m rethinking my stance on that last statement! 🙂

  1. “Busy” is for the ‘young’! Not that you’re not young! (At 86, nearly 87, everyone else is ‘young’!) I can honestly say though that time, without the usual things to do, requires a change of mind. Habit is hard to change. Sometimes I revert back, but not as often as I used to. So accept the ‘busy’ and know that it doesn’t last forever! As for now… you’re doing a GREAT job!
