I know, several months ago, I said that, no matter how hot it got this summer, I would not complain about the heat because of the cold winter we had experienced. Well, I’m not complaining. I’m just saying that 119 degree heat index is hot, that’s all.
It’s hot enough to buckle roadways. It’s hot enough to cause health problems. It’s hot enough to force people to stay indoors.
I didn’t complain about the heat; but, I acted against it today by closing the Pastoral Center in Merrillville and closing our Parish and School offices. I wanted to keep the employees safe. I certainly hope that they stayed indoors.
I have been praying for all those who are homeless and who have no shelter from the elements. This heat is really dangerous and everyone needs to have a place to cool down and have hydration provided.
I will keep my promise. I won’t complain about the heat. But, at the same time, I don’t have to like it.
