The Day Off That Wasn’t

I didn’t get my day off again.  I’m pretty used to that.  I don’t have to like it, though.

I had a couple of appointments this morning in the office and then a personnel board meeting at the diocese in the afternoon.  It’s the time of the year when we begin to look ahead to what might take place next year in terms of retirements, requested transfers, and the like.  These kind of times remind me of how much we are in need of help.  There are fewer and fewer priests and many places to serve.  It’s a jumble to try to have everyone’s needs met as the priests get stretched thinner and thinner.

Oh, if only I could be stretched thin.  But that’s not possible.  Dieting doesn’t seem to be possible, either.  I’m a nervous eater like my mother was.  I’ve maintained a weight sixty pounds under the heaviest I ever was; but, I really need to lose more and keep that off as well.  As I said, a story for another time.
