Today’s The Day I’m Beat Up

Ah, yes.  It’s always the day after surgery, isn’t it?  The day after is when the anesthetic has worn off and the trauma to the body is just beginning to speak in volumes.  That is where I am today.

My icepack and my Tylenol bottle are best buds today as I try to deal with the swelling and pain from the incision after the pacemaker/defibrillator changeout yesterday.  Now, let me make it clear, it’s nothing like a lot of other surgeries; but, an owie is an owie.  🙂

As I get older, I realize that I heal slower and that I have to take it easy more.  And that is what I have been doing all day.  I’ve been in my recliner watch YouTube videos and napping on and off alternating with walking around the house to exercise and stay mobile.  I also go to the computer in my “office” area in my living room and sit there for a while surfing the web and then going back to the recliner again.

I’m hoping for a good night’s sleep.  I’m much more sore today than I was last night now that the local anesthetic has dissipated.  But, I know that this won’t last forever.  It’ll be a few days and then I will begin feeling better and stronger again.

I just don’t know if I will have to go through this sooner, though.  I was reading the manual on my new unit and the document said I could expect 4-7 years battery life.  My last unit was a 15 year life and I got 7 on it because I’m paced 100% of the time.  I don’t want to have to do this surgery again in 4 year.  But if that’s what’s needed, oh well…
