I have been an awful mess the past few days.
It began with a pre-summer cold that I picked up this past weekend. By Monday morning, my throat was so raw it was awful.
Then, I finally had a funeral scheduled that we had waited word on for two weeks. There was a lot of stress regarding that funeral, especially since they used our church for a wake the day before, as a funeral home would have been too small.
Some of my employees have been steering me a wide berth the past few days because of my stress level (which was probably a really wise idea on their part.)
Today, after it was all over, I finally got out of the cemetery around 1:00 p.m. and wondered what I was going to do on this so-called "day off". I couldn't necessarily get out of town today because I have to be here earlier tomorrow for Morning Mass followed by one of my "big" doctors' appointments: pacemaker check and echocardiogram.
As I was leaving the cemetery, a good friend contacted me and said that plans had been changed and that he was not leaving town until the evening. We decided to get together for the afternoon and for dinner.
It is so nice to meet up with a good friend and spend some quality time together, isn't it?
It helps a person to forget some of the other things going on in everyday life.
Thus was my afternoon. A few hours' visit followed by dinner and I'm as good as new.
Thanks, by the way, for the friend who stopped off in my office last night after Benediction and before NJHS Induction to listen to me vent. She helped a lot as well!
God sure knew what He was doing when He put friends into our lives.
