The energy and attention that has gone into World Cup Soccer is the same kind of energy and attention that goes into football, baseball, hockey, and any other professional sports. They spend so much on getting their award.
In one sense, that is all well and good.
However, for so many people, the games are the closest that some get to worship.
So many things in our world appear to take precedence over God and over the practice of any kind of religion. In my more sarcastic moments, I wonder when they are going to formally establish a sport as a new religion!
So, while I congratulate Spain for their World Cup win, I also encourage all who read this blog today to put as much time, energy, and attention into activities related to God as you may do to other, more worldly, endeavors.
