Today was absolutely a great day to begin my vacation!
It began after my 6:30 and 8:00 a.m. Masses this morning. About 9:20 a.m., one of my friends arrived at the rectory. He was coming to the airport with me as he is one of several people that will be down here on vacation these next several days. Deacon Napoleon drove us to O'Hare Airport.
Originally, my friend asked why I wanted to leave so early. After all, our flight was not leaving until 2:35 p.m. Why get to O'Hare so early? Well, he found out why, that's for sure!
The traffic was absolutely beautiful and Deacon Napoleon got us there at 10:30 a.m. Four hours pre-flight.
My friend looked at me and I said, "Wait."
We got inside and went to the self check-in area at American Airlines. When we entered our locator numbers, there was the glorious message: "You are eligible to upgrade to First Class." For $70 each, we upgraded our tickets. Actually, it is not $70 because we would have had to pay $25 per person for our check-in luggage which is included in the First Class upgrade. On top of that, we got really nice seats, wide and leather, at the front of the plane along with a really nice "snack" -- more like a meal.
After checking in and upgrading, we went through security -- in the First Class line, of course -- and, after clearing security, went to The Macaroni Grill for a really nice lunch. I like that place.
While waiting to board, I bet my friend that we would have our gate changed before boarding. Happens all the time at O'Hare. Remember, we I went on my cruise last October, I was changed three times at the ends of two different terminals. He took the bet.
Sure enough, an hour before boarding, they announced a gate change. However, this gate change was simply across the hall from where we were. H 12 to H 11a.
We began boarding at 2:05 p.m. for our 2:35 p.m. flight. We were told that the flight was full. No empty seats available. Usually, boarding a full flight is a nightmare. However, we all got on smoothly and were pushing away from the jetway seven minutes early! We actually took off on time. A minute or two early, on top of it.
They must have built in a delay in the schedule because we were scheduled to land in Orlando at 6:30 p.m. and it is not that long of a flight. Sure enough, we landed at 5:50 p.m.
Since we were at the front of the plane, we got off immediately and went straight downstairs to the Disney transportation. We did not have to worry about luggage since Disney was picking it up and would be delivering it. We got on a bus at 6:20 p.m. and were pulling away at 6:30 p.m. Made it to the Boardwalk at 7:15 p.m. and checked in.
After checking in, we went to a grocery store for supplies for the next week and a half. Came back and put everything away. After unpacking the groceries, the people from the Magical Express brought our luggage, so I was able to unpack my luggage and get everything ready.
Now? Well, being so late, I am getting ready to crash. No alarm. I'll wake up when I wake up. It is so good to be here.
By the way, presently (11:07 p.m. our time, temp is 66 degrees with 100% humidity. Forgot about Florida humidity. But better than what we left, that's for sure.)
Well, off to bed. I'll write more tomorrow. G'night.
