A “Neat” Month!

October is full of wonder, in my opinion.

It is a month that shows the most in the changing of the seasons.  The colors of autumn can be seen over the next few weeks coming into “full bloom”.

Then there is the spiritual side.  Tomorrow we celebrate the Feast of the Guardian Angels.  They are the principal patrons of the Diocese of Gary so it’s a big day for us.  Then we follow up with the feast of St. Francis.  He and his spirituality have always been special to me.  For a while, I was studying to enter the Franciscan Order.  I decided to remain with the diocese, though, as a diocesan priest rather than a religious order one.

Shortly after the feast of St. Francis, we celebrate the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary.  Talk about miraculous intervention!  I’ll just leave it at that for now.

Later this month, the priests of the diocese will be doing to a convocation in Plymouth, IN.  I will remain behind and cover my former parish.  It will be nice to be there Sunday through Thursday.  Then on Friday of that week, I will leave for San Diego and board a ship, two days later, for a cruise to Ensenada, Cabo, and La Paz to celebrate my birthday.  I’ll return on November 1st, the Feast of All Saints.

Many celebrations coming up.

God is good.
