Seventy-six: A Wonderful Number

Seventy six trombones led me to you
With a hundred and ten cornets close at hand.
They were followed by rows and rows of the finest virtuosos,
The cream of ev’ry famous band.

Today would have been the seventy-sixth wedding anniversary of my mom and dad.  Well, I should say that today is their seventy-sixth anniversary since I am sure that they are celebrating together in heaven.  We just don’t have the opportunity to celebrate with them; at least, not yet.

I am so happy that my mom and dad were able to celebrate their milestone fifty years together before illness and death separated them.  Their marriage, with its ups and downs, was a testament to us of the virtue of commitment. There were many times that things got rocky for them; but, they worked them out because they truly believed in their vows.

Commitment does not seem to be as common in today’s world.  People are more prone to “jump ship” whether it be in schools, in jobs, or, unfortunately, in marriages.

Here’s to those who believe in commitment and who do their best to make their vows work!

Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad!
