Most Reverend Carl F. Mengeling, Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Lansing and son of the Diocese of Gary, passed away this morning in Michigan at age 94. He served the Diocese of Gary faithfully for many years before being named Bishop of Lansing in 1996. He will be missed but was more than ready to meet our Lord.

There will be a public visitation from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at St. Gerard Catholic Church, 4437 West Willow Highway in Lansing, Michigan. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 8 p.m.

Reception of the body liturgy will be celebrated by Most Reverend Earl Boyea, Bishop of Lansing on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at 2 p.m. at St. Mary Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 219 Seymour Avenue in Lansing, Michigan with public visitation to follow until 9 p.m. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. and evening prayer and 7:30 p.m.

On Thursday, July 10, 2025, public visitation will be held from 9-11:30 a.m. The Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. and is a ticketed event (admission by ticket only).

Interment to follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, 2520 West Willow Street, Lansing, Michigan. The public is welcome.
