The Visitation

This morning, we celebrated the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary.  While she was expecting Jesus, she went to help her kinswoman, Elizabeth, who was further along in her pregnancy with John the Baptist.

It was a rough trip for Mary but, even though she was pregnant and could have used some preliminary, she knew that Elizabeth would need much more help that Mary would need and it was in that spirit that she went out to serve her kinswoman.

Sometimes we allow ourselves to become befuddled with our own spiritual, emotional, or physical needs.  In doing so, we block out the legitimate needs of others.  Thank God for the example of the saints, such as Mary, who have shown us a more unselfish way to care for one another.
