Almost Dry

Yesterday and this morning was the “big test” for our new church roof.  Every rain event for the past two months has had water coming into the building.  My stomach churned as the downpour happened last night during the evening Mass.  To my utter surprise and amazement, no water.  I was surprised but a disbeliever.  I figured that the harder storms predicted overnight would see water coming in the building.

When I got to the church this morning, no water.  Well, almost.

The church wasn’t leaking but we had water coming in on the parish office hallway ceiling.  One of the ceiling tiles was absolutely soaked though it wasn’t dripping down on the carpet yet.

The service team that was monitoring the church came out as soon as I contacted them, opened up another ceiling tile, flashed their light onto the ceiling, and saw the water dripping.  Not from a ceiling seam on the roof but, rather, from around one of the air vents going through the roof.

They went up top and saw that the vent was not adequately caulked so they dug out all the caulk, reseated the vent, re-caulked, and, voila, no more water.

After a couple months of churning stomach acid each time it rained, I think better times are a comin’.  Yay. 🙂
