Have To Monitor My Intake Better

As I have been healing, my mouth hurts and, therefore, I haven’t been eating much.  Most of it has been soft food and some fluids.  That caught up to me this evening.

I was at the evening Mass and, halfway through, I began to get very week.  My right leg starting shaking on me and I thought I was going to crumple.  I adjusted my stance and continued praying the Eucharistic Prayer and asked God to get me through it.  I felt a bit flushed as well.

I was able to rally but still felt weird.  Immediately after Mass, as I was in the sacristy and before locking up the church, I tried to figure out what was wrong.  I came to a quick conclusion:   I’m diabetic.

As a diabetic, I have been maintaining my blood sugar rather well.  My doctor has been pleased with my a1c levels and all has been fine.  But, with my mouth so sore, I’ve been taking my meds as usual but not eating as much.  I was experiencing a drop in blood sugar.

I went to the fridge and pulled out two mini peanut butter cups for some quick sugar and then walked the church to lock up.  By the time I got to the rectory, I was much more clear-headed.  So, when I got to my room, I pulled out a fruit Greek yogurt and put a spoonful of honey on it, mixed it together, and felt like myself again.

I’m glad I thought of that before going to bed.  I could’ve had a bit of a crisis otherwise.  😮

g’night
