I just got back home from my second full day at the helm of the Pastoral Center. In some ways, it feels like two months; but, I’ll have to admit that most of it is because of this wretched weather ripping apart my sinuses and arthritis.
It is amazing to hear of all the different things that need to be juggled in the job of bishop. I’ve gained an ever greater respect for the office of bishop after just two days. I texted Bishop Hying yesterday and asked how he continued to smile with all the things that he had to deal with.
I think that my biggest accomplishment today, as mundane as it may sound, was to ensure that my calendar is shared with the bishop’s secretary. That way, she will be able to see what openings I might have and be able to put tentative appointments in place as people who need appointments call.
I also realize that this is going to be an even bigger job than I first imagined. I know that I’m not the bishop so I figured that the work load might be somewhat lighter. That’s not necessarily the case. While I might not have as many outside engagements as he had, I’ve got a lot to do in house.
It’s a good thing I like to work, that’s all I’m saying. 🙂
