Today’s feast was Our Lady of the Rosary, a feast instituted in the mid-1500’s because of a naval battle between Christianity and the Turks. The Ottoman Empire was extended its reach and threatened to destroy Christianity. The pope at the time encouraged all Christians to pray the rosary, asking Mary to intercede for them to God.
The navy came in to destroy the Christians and the Christians prevailed. The pope instituted the feast as an annual thanksgiving to Mary.
Who would’ve thought . . . a feast because of a naval battle.
