This morning was really, really, really busy for me. Even though it was a “sleep-in” day, I could not do that as I had to be up early for our parish’s quarterly finance meeting. Our parish has some exceptional volunteers whose time is very occupied in the business world. Therefore, they like to come in before office hours begin. We have our quarterly finance meeting at 7:00 a.m. and generally finish by 8:15 a.m.
After the meeting, I had the 8:30 a.m. all school Mass. That went well, as usual. The students are always so engaged and, today, the younger classes were with the older students, their “church buddies”.
Immediately after Mass, I had to rush to St. Casimir School in Hammond for a press conference. It was announced today that Beth and Bruce White, along with the Big Shoulders Fund, were committing sixteen million dollars over a ten year period to the Dioceses of Gary to help our schools continue to serve our students and provide stellar professional development for our administrators, staff, and faculties. Beth and Bruce White stated that they were originally “Region rats” and that they are committed to helping youth in our diocese as they have done in the Archdiocese of Chicago. Talk about putting your money where your mouth is!
I’m happy to report that I turned in my daily reflections for Advent and Christmas to an administrative assistant at the parish so that she can begin to format them for a booklet that we will be distributing again this year the weekend before Advent. Last year’s booklet was so well received that we decided to do it again. Where I found the time to write those reflections, I don’t know. But, they’re done!
In the next week or so, I will be formatting the reflections so that people can download them into .mobi or .epub formats for digital readers.
The rest of the day was an array of meetings and fighting a sinus headache from hell as the weather has been shifting. (I hate this time of year!)
So, I’m pretty much ready for bed. g’night, readers . . .
