Today is my Aunt Connie’s birthday. When she was still among us, she would say that she didn’t like it when we remembered her birthday. However, if we didn’t remember her birthday, well, there would be hell to be paid. 🙂 She was a mystery, that’s for sure.
I consider myself privileged to be with her the last years of her life, checking in on her at her condo and placing her, near the end, in hospice care. She fought until she couldn’t fight any more and then she gave up and let the Lord be in charge for a change.
Her birthday is today and her death anniversary is in two weeks. Some of us will gather at one of her favorite restaurants — Giovanni’s here in Munster — to remember her.
Happy Birthday, Auntie Connie. I hope you’re enjoying eternity now that you are reunited with Uncle Mike and with your son, Mickey, who died way too young.

I would be remiss if I didn’t also make note of the fact that it is Memorial Day. For all those who gave their lives in wars throughout the ages, let us remember them and pray that they have eternal rest, knowing that their sacrifice was not in vain.
