On September 5, 1997, Mother Teresa of Calcutta was called home by God. Nineteen years later, on September 4, 2016, she was canonized by Pope Francis.
She had spent her time on earth helping the poorest of the poor. She also dedicated her life to giving the dying the opportunity to die with dignity. Instead of being forced to die in the gutters of the streets, she brought them in to her hostels and cared for them until they passed away in a comfort and a peace that they most had not known throughout their lives.
She was a mystic — a person who was so in love with God that she appeared to be living in two worlds at once: earth and heaven. Her great love changed the lives of all she encountered.
Thank you, God, for giving us this great woman in our day and age to show us that love is still the most important thing that people can do!
