And Away I Went

This morning arrived early.  Way too early.  I had my alarm set for 3:30 a.m. but was awake and could not go back to sleep at 2:00 a.m.  Yikes.

My ride picked me up at 4:30 a.m. to took me to O’Hare for my flight to Miami.  I couldn’t believe, that early in the morning, that there would be the crowds that there were at the airport.

The TSA pre-check line was long but it went smoothly.  Except for the body scan part.  I was stopped for an pat down.  Sometimes, my artificial hips light up their screens.  Today it was my shoe.  Not both, just one.  So the officer had me take off my shoes and he took them to the belt to be scanned.  He patted my ankle down to make sure there was nothing secreted there.  The shoes went through the scanner with no problem and I was on my way.

When I got to Miami Airport and got my bag, I went outside and found out that I had just missed the hotel shuttle.  I called them and they told me that it would be about 35 minutes before the next shuttle arrived.  I was early anyway (check in isn’t until 4:00 p.m. and it was only 1:30 p.m.) and the weather was really nice (83 but cool in the shade with the breeze) so I waited.

When I got to the hotel, I found that my room was already done and ready for release so I went straight to my room.  I took my noon meds and then went back to the check in desk to inquire about a meal.  They have complimentary breakfast here and that’s it.  No restaurant.  One of the employees suggested I walk three blocks down the road to a sport’s bar.  They recommend that everyone go there.

It was actually airport themed, the Pilot’s Bar and Grill.  It was on the sixth floor of the Wyndham Hotel.  I was a bit skeptical at first but I had what I believe was the best burger that I’ve ever had in my life!  Wow.  It came with one side and I order the sweet potato fries.  Yum.

After that, I came back to the room and rested.  Yes, I’m tired.  And I’m going to hit the sack as soon as I save and publish this.

Not sure what I’m going to do tomorrow.  Maybe tour.  Maybe nothing.  I’ll see how I feel.

Oh yes, when I registered, I also registered for the cruise port shuttle on Sunday.  They had shuttles going at 8:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., and 12:00 Noon.  (All they needed was a 6:30 a.m. and they would duplicate the Mass schedule I held for years! 🙂 )  I signed up for the 10:00 a.m. shuttle and asked how much it would be.  They told me it was a complimentary shuttle.  That surprised me.  Most of the hotels I stay at around Port Canaveral charge at least $10 for their shuttles.

Okay, that’s it.  I’m signing off and, even more importantly, going to bed.

g’night
