Today, we celebrated a couple of partings, one for the summer and one for good. At the all school Mass this morning, we reminded all of the students not to turn their brains off for the summer. They were reminded of the importance to learn at all times. They were encouraged to read throughout the summer as well as engage in other activities that will challenge their brains to learn. Of course, they were also reminded to do everything with safety in mind. Summer vacation does not mean you don’t have to look both ways when you cross the street.
After the Mass, we had Kindergarten graduation. The little tykes walked up to Pomp and Circumstance, accepted their diploma scrolls, and then sang some songs expressing what they learned and their desire to move up to first grade. They are parting for the summer but will be back in the fall.
Parting this evening and not returning are our eighth graders. They celebrated their Baccalaureate Mass and Commencement Exercises at 7:00 p.m. They will not be back anymore as they are moving on to the next stage of their education: high school. They are a wonderful group of people, full of energy and hopes. I wish them nothing but the best and pray that all their dreams will be realized.
They say “red sky at night, sailor’s delight.” Well, as our graduates “cast off” to the next stage of their lives, the sky over the church and school is wishing them delight:
