I had the 6:30 a.m. Mass this morning, as I do every Wednesday. Before the Mass, I began proofreading the daily reflections for the upcoming Advent/Christmas Season. After Mass, Deacon Joe and I went out to breakfast. When I came back from breakfast, I finished proofreading the reflections and then printed them out and put them in a manila envelope so that they could be delivered to someone else to proofread as well. I cannot trust myself since I am the one who wrote them and, as I proofread them, my brain could have made a correction without my really seeing the mistake.
This morning, our house guest, Msgr. Morales, left for the airport and his return trip back to California. He came here last week on Tuesday for Fr. Beeching’s funeral and spent eight days with us at the parish while visiting family and friends. It was great to see him.
After he left, I had a staff meeting with Fr. Declan as well as the president and principal of our school. The four of us met off site to discuss what has been going on and what plans are for the next week. This is a weekly occurrence for us. It helps to keep everybody on the same page.
After our meeting, I had a chunk of about four hours to kick around. That was the time that I took to sit outside. I spent a good amount of it on my computer on the deck getting things done while, at the same time, relaxing: listening to the birds, watching the squirrels, and feeling the breeze!
My eyes are itching like made because I sat on my deck for a couple of hours with the wind blowing allergens in my face. And you know what? I could care less. Because if felt so nice to be sitting outside in the breeze with nothing to do for a couple of hours.
At 5:00 p.m., I had Mass for our Religious Education students. This was our opening-of-the-year Mass as well as Confirmation Commitment for our 8th grade students. Please keep them in your prayers as they prepare for that very important sacrament.
I’ll be hitting the sack soon since I have to be at the Pastoral Center early tomorrow for a long day and then come home to a long afternoon and evening. I will be ready to drop Friday. But I better not drop before Saturday’s wedding.
Enough for now.
