Puts The Oop In Pooped!

Today really put the “oop” in pooped.  I’m exhausted, I don’t mind admitting.  The day began with my opening the church at 6:30 a.m. so that people could come in to pray.  I celebrated the 8:30 a.m. Mass and then set up for a Memorial Mass for a recently-deceased.  That Mass was at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel.

After the 10:00 a.m. Memorial Mass, I set up the church for a 12:00 Noon Funeral Mass.  That Mass finished at 12:50 p.m.

I ran to the house to get a bit to eat for lunch and then was back to set up for the 5:30 p.m. Mass before going in to “the box” to hear confessions at 3:30 p.m.  I generally begin hearing at 3:15 p.m. to take care of the early birds.

After confessions, I did final prep for the 530 p.m. Mass and celebrated it.  That made my fourth Mass today.  I used to be able to do that when I was younger but tonight, well, tonight I feel absolutely wrung out.

I’m going to hit the sack as soon as possible because I’m up at 4:00 a.m. to open the church and celebrate the 6:30 and 8:00 a.m. Masses tomorrow.  When they are finished, I have to go to Dyer to anoint a parishioner who has entered home hospice care.

Msgr. Zollinger, when asked how he was doing, would often say, “Tired, over worked, and under paid.”  I’m beginning to think that’s a very apt descriptor of life.  I don’t care about the pay part, but, I sure feel pooped.

g’night, world
