Family Memories

I thought of my aunt today.  She was the middle daughter of my grandparents’ three daughters.  My mom was the youngest.  Anyway, my aunt had been a nurse for her entire career, spending most of it in educational nursing.  She was one of the departmental nurses that was sent to different schools to do testing and the like.

I thought of my aunt because I buried a parishioner today who had been a nurse at St. Catherine’s Hospital in East Chicago for forty years.  I told the family that I was certain that there is a special place in heaven for nurses for all that they have to put up with in their lives.  I’ve heard stories from many a nurse friend through the years and I would always tell myself that there was no way that I could do what they did or put up with what they put up with.

A special shout-out to nurses tonight and just as big a shout-out to family.
