Transatlantic – Just A Memory

This morning arrived even though I hoped it wouldn’t. 🙂  I woke up early because of the noise at the Port of Miami.  There was a lot of hubbub going on outside at 4:00 a.m. as they were unloading suitcases from the ship and doing all sorts of other work.  I showered and then got my breakfast together after going downstairs for some pop (cold caffeine for breakfast).

I was in the theatre by 8:00 a.m. and, shortly after arriving, my luggage tag number was called so I left the ship and went to claim my bag.  From there, I loaded onto a bus for Fort Lauderdale Airport.  I got to the airport at 10:00 a.m. and, there, was faced with a dilemma. What do I do with all my extra time?  My flight was not scheduled to leave until 5:50 p.m. and arrive at Midway Airport at 8:00 p.m.  I did not book an earlier flight because I was afraid that going through customs would take too long.  However, we went through customs yesterday so all we did was walk off the ship.

This is where I give a HUGE shout-out to Southwest Airlines.  I went to their desk at the terminal and asked if there was a chance to get an earlier non-stop flight to Chicago.  They had room on the 1:40 p.m. flight, arriving into Chicago at 3:45 p.m.  I asked if I could change my ticket to that flight and they were more than happy to do so for me.  No change fee.  No difference in flight fee.  Just a new ticket.

So, by the time I landed in Chicago, got picked up by my driver, and made it back home, I arrived at 5:30 p.m. — twenty minutes before I originally should have taken off!

I’ve unpacked already and have gone through a mess of emails that came in while I was away.  At this point in time, I am going to set everything else aside and go to bed.  My body says that it is an hour later and I am very tired from the early rising and transportation stuff.

So, there you have it.  I’m home.  I get to sleep in tomorrow.  And then I will be running full speed ahead!  But now, I get to go to bed a half-hour before I should have arrived at Midway.  Life is good.  Speaking of good:  good night!
