Fr. Stanley Dominik

Reverend Stanley Joseph Dominik passed from this life on February 5, 2024, at the age of 90.

Father Dominik was born on May 1, 1933, in Whiting, Ind., ordained a priest for the Diocese of Gary on May 31, 1958, and began his service as assistant pastor at St. Stanislaus, East Chicago and as an instructor at Bishop Noll Institute in Hammond.

Fr. Dominik served the Diocese of Gary as pastor at Sacred Heart in Whiting, St. John Bosco in Hammond, St. Stanislaus Kostka in Michigan City, and St. John Cantius in East Chicago. Father Dominik also served as associate pastor of St. Mary in Hammond and St. John Cantius in East Chicago, as well as Sacred Heart, St. Adalbert, Immaculate Conception, and St. John the Baptist in Whiting. He also served as administrator of Ss. Peter and Paul, St. Adalbert, and Immaculate Conception in Whiting, as well as at St. Joseph in East Chicago.

In addition to parish and school appointments, Father Dominik also served the Diocese of Gary with numerous diocesan appointments including terms as dean, diocesan director of cemeteries, and vicar general. Father Dominik also served in the sacred liturgy section of the Commission on Church Worship.

The Rite of Reception will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 12, at St. Adalbert in Whiting with visitation continuing until 7:00 p.m. Evening prayer will begin at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, February 13, beginning at 9:00 a.m. with morning prayer at 10:00 a.m.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 13, at St. Adalbert in Whiting with Most Reverend Robert J. McClory as the main celebrant.
