Will They Accept Me?

This morning, I spent a couple of hours at a local physician’s center to be evaluated to participate in a study helping people with heart failure.  For the record, I have been diagnosed with congestive heart failure several years ago and my cardiologist’s office referred me to this center for evaluation.

There, they are experimenting with a medicine.  Some people in the study are given the med, some are given a placebo.  It was explained that, at this point in time, there are no meds being researched for heart failure.  What they are researching are meds that help some of the underlying problems of heart failure:  high blood pressure and high cholesterol being the two most common.

They asked me a number of questions — a number! — and then took an EKG and vials of blood.  I fit the criteria for the study in regards to the questions answered and my medical history.  The results of the blood work will determine whether or not I am accepted.  They are looking for people who have a certain percentage of pathology reflected in their lab work.

If I don’t get accepted into the study, it will be because I’m not “sick enough” to make the cut.  I guess that, in itself, would be a win.  🙂

Stay tuned for further developments.
