We Catholics are always trying to make converts. It means a lot to know that other people share our faith and beliefs. Well, today I made different kinds of converts. I had some people become interested in The Earthsea Trilogy by Ursula K. Le Guin.
The mini-retreat went very well. It felt bittersweet knowing that this was the last one that I will be doing with the council here at St. Thomas More since I am leaving in another month. But it also felt good to go out on a high.
And speaking of going out on a high, the food that people brought to the potluck for afterwards was fantastic. From fresh fruits and salads, to pasta and sandwiches, to decadent desserts (I’m afraid to check my blood sugar 🙂 ), the morning was a hit.
I had the afternoon confessions and evening Mass today and tomorrow I have the early Masses (the 6:30 and 8:00 a.m.). After I lock up following the Noon Mass tomorrow, I’ll head next door for the annual Music Ministry summer party. More wonderful food. Blood sugar fail x2.
With the completion of tomorrow, I have the month of June remaining before I leave to begin my retirement. What once was merely a dream is fast becoming a reality. I meet with someone from the diocese next week to sign papers to initiate my retirement at the end of June. It’s just all too real now.
But what’s even more real is bedtime. I’ve got an early rise to open the church tomorrow.
g’night
