My Guardian Dear

One of the prayers that I remember learning early on in my life is the prayer that the good Sisters at St. Mary’s in Griffith taught us: Angel of God, my Guardian dear, to whom God’s love commits me here.  Ever this day be at my side to light and guard, to rule and guide.  Amen.

I would often say that to myself as we were being ushered to church for school Mass.  There was a huge stained glass window at the end of the hall under which we would take the stairs outdoors.  That stained glass window was from the famous painting Guardian Angel by Bernhard Plockhorst.

I think of all of that today as we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Guardian Angels, the patronal feast of the Diocese of Gary.  It is a reminder to us all that God has given each and every one of us our own personal angel to watch over us.  Don’t make your angel work overtime. 🙂
