Retirement On Pause

Tomorrow, it’s “back to work” for me.

I retired on July 1st and have been following the advice of a national priests’ organization that suggests that, upon retirement, the priest does not go back to work for at least six months.  The organization suggests that the priest does the things that he hadn’t been able to do because of work schedules.

I have accepted that suggestion and am attempting to put it into full force.  For me, that has meant several cruises. 🙂

I have told my brother priests not to look for any help from me until I return from Florida at the end of February of next year.  After that, I’ll be more than happy to schedule myself to assist them when they need sacramental help.

Except for exceptions.

Tomorrow begins an exception for me.

When I retired, I told the new pastor that I would be willing to help cover the parish next week while the priests of the diocese are on convocation.  I will have the 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 Noon Masses tomorrow and the 8:30 a.m. Masses Monday through Thursday.  On Tuesday and Wednesday, I will also have funeral Masses.

The priests get back Thursday afternoon and Friday morning I leave for San Diego and a Baja Mexico cruise.

I’m looking forward to a little quality time with my former parishioners.
