Labor Day is coming soon and, with it, the Labor Day Telethon. For years, that telethon has been associated with Jerry Lewis.
I remember the Labor Day weekend many years ago now when my mother called me from the Mayo Clinic. She had just found out that she had ALS (Amyothropic Lateral Sclerosis or Lou Gehrig’s Disease). She was sobbing when she said to me, “Now, I’m one of Jerry’s kids.”
The telethon did much to raise money for MDA research as well as for care for patients who suffered from any neuro-muscular diseases, as my mom did.
As we hear of the passing of Jerry Lewis today, I just want to say “Thank you, Jerry, for taking care of all of your kids, including my mom.”
