Today started bright and cheery. As a matter of fact, I was able to catch the sun rising. I have a video of it on my Facebook page.
For a while in the morning, I felt like a man without a country. I had to leave my balcony so that they could spray them to prevent the sea salts from eating away at the metal. We were all instructed to remove everything from our balconies. They opened all the connecting doors so that the crew could walk from one balcony to the next without hassle. As I glanced down the row of balconies, I saw someone that “didn’t get the message” about removing towels and other things from their balcony. There’s always at least one, isn’t there? 🙂
The Captain’s Noon Report:
The closest land to us now is Nassau, Bahamas. We are expected to arrive there at 7:30 a.m.
It’s nice outside right now. The sea state is 11 feet and is 70 degrees. It will get warmer as we get closer to Nassau.
Tonight cloudy and the possibility of showers. The winds will increase to
35 kts/40 mph tonight.
Tomorrow some rain and continued windy during the day. Temp expected to be around 81 degrees.
That’s the end of the Noon Report.
We had a lot of shifting weather throughout the afternoon. It got rainy at times and much higher waves. After dinner, I went up top and the decks were soaked from a recent rain.
We have heard about condition problems in Nassau. Today, the Utopia of the Seas was supposed to port there but, because of the winds and the narrow channel, it wouldn’t do it. So the captain withdrew from his attempt and then ended up with a day at sea. We’re wondering if the same is going to happen to us because of a tropical storm moving in toward the Bahamas. This is the uncertainty of cruising. Either way, it’s a day of vacation . . . and my last day of it at that. Thursday will find us disembarking in Fort Lauderdale and heading to our homes.
It’s been a good cruise and I loved every minute of it.
See you when I get home.
g’night
