Day Ten – Diverted To Bermuda

The day began a lot more bright than the past few days (though that wouldn’t last long).  There were indications of a rough evening/night as well.  “Barf bags” were taped to the rails of the stairwells and I hear many people used them last night because of the motion of the ship.  Many spoke about things falling off their shelves and furniture rattling.  It was a rough evening/night last night.  But, as I said, the day dawned with a lot more promise.

Captain’s Noon Report:

Presently, we are in 9ft swells and going between sun and liquid sunshine.
Bermuda is the nearest land to us. The captain said, “Why Bermuda?, some of you may be asking.”

The captain said that many of us noticed that we deviated from our southerly course last night and thought it was to find better weather/water. However, we deviated course last night to head to Bermuda in order to perform a necessary medical evacuation on Monday. We’ll get to port Monday morning, transfer the patient, and make way again on our cruise.

The captain indicated that this would cause no delay to our scheduled arrival in Nassau and would actually put us in better weather.

He expects calmer waters tonight, with swells reducing in height every other hour for a while.

Right now, it’s not raining, but that won’t last long. We’ll be going in and out of rain throughout the day, however.

Am I still having fun? Does a bear… never mind. Of course I’m having fun. I wouldn’t have been on so many transatlantic cruises if I didn’t have fun.

The afternoon would go from sunny

To rainy

I’ve always loved rain boundaries. When I was 3 or 4, I was running out of the house one summer day to play with the neighbors. My mom yelled, “Where are you going?!” I said I was going to play with the neighbors across the street. She said, “You can’t. It’s pouring outside.” And I said, “Not across the street!”

Sure enough, there was a line right down the middle of the road in front of our house. Our side of the street was getting a downpour and across the street was sunny and dry.

Ever since then, I’ve loved seeing the edges of rainfall.

So, I guess a part of transatlantic cruising is looking for rain boundaries and being transported back to my childhood.

I’m taking the evening off to relax.  The show tonight is Cats.  However, it’s at 8:00 p.m. and it is the full (1 1/2 hour) Broadway musical.  I opted to watch the matinee tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.

So tonight, I’m going to read and then go to bed and hope to get some good sleep.  I didn’t sleep so well last night.

until tomorrow . . .
