2026 Transatlantic – Day One

What a day, what a day.

Thank God I had the first boarding slot at 10:30 a.m.  I booked a ride for 10:00 a.m. because the hotel is only 16 minutes from the port.  When I arrived in Barcelona and was picked up by one of the people in the travel service that I use here, Transfeero, he suggested that I see if I could get picked up earlier.  He said that there are more than five mega ships in port on Sundays and that the roads become bogged down and chaotic.  When I got to the hotel, I opened my app and requested a pickup time of 9:30 a.m. instead of 10:00 a.m.  It was a good thing I did.  The 16 minute ride from the hotel to the port took an hour so I got here just in time.  Even worse, the road was closed by the police after we went through because of the traffic jam.  There were many taxis that refused to pick up their customers to bring them to port.  I don’t even know if everyone made it on board this evening.  I’ll hear about it tomorrow, I imagine.

That being said, when I got to port, I was able to get into line early (because I left the porter a really nice tip for taking my bag) because the porter let me in the suites entrance.  I was boarding group 3 instead of boarding group 12 that was being handed out when I got in.

It took a little longer than usual to clear through because Spain is insisting on immigration control after registration.  My passport was scanned and verified that I entered the country two days earlier so my picture was still on file.

Dinner was magnificent.  The best prime rib that Royal Caribbean has ever served.

There are no shows for this evening which is fine and dandy for me.  I want to sleep.  I got very little sleep last night in anticipation of today.  Mass is tomorrow at 8:00 a.m.  We arrive in Palma de Mallorca tomorrow at 8:30 a.m.  I don’t have any shore excursion planned for tomorrow.  If it’s nice, I’ll take the shuttle into town.  If it’s ungodly hot like it’s supposed to be, I’ll stay in the air conditioned ship. 🙂

This is going to be a great cruise.  I’m happy to bring the Harmony of the Seas home to her port in Port Canaveral, Florida.  I brought her on her maiden transatlantic in 2016 when we travelled from Barcelona to Port Everglades.  Now that she is newly refurbished, I’m bringing her home again.

Here’s my room for the next two weeks (Deck 12 Room 192)
