Travel Days

The Carpenters may have said “rainy days and Monday always get me down”, but to that list I could add travel days.

We made it into Fort Lauderdale early this morning and the process for travel began with a 6:00 a.m. visit to the Solarium Bistro for a breakfast of scrambled eggs, tomatoes, and yogurt with fruit.

After breakfast, I came up to my room and watched television for an hour.  At 7:30 a.m., I went down to the promenade to wait for my luggage group to be called.

I got to the terminal and instantly became a hot mess.  My luggage was not there.  Ah, c’mon, not today.  I was worried about my flight leaving at 12:30 p.m. and I didn’t have a lot of time to play.  The employees were not very helpful, either.  Long story short, after a forty-five minute search of the entire terminal, I found my luggage on the other side of the floors.

Immigration was another hassle.  The line to get through took a little over a half hour.

I finally got out to the bus lines to, you guessed it, wait again.  Shortly before 10:00 a.m., the bus finally left for the airport which was, thankfully, only five minutes away.

Getting through the airport was a breeze.  Security didn’t take too long since I’m TSA Precheck.  I found myself at the gate forty minutes before boarding so I was able to take some deep breaths and relax.

The flight home was uneventful, except for the rough skies.  The pilot kept apologizing for not turning off the seatbelt sign.  It took him well over an hour to find some smooth air.

We touched down at Midway Airport on schedule and, as usual at Midway, waited almost a half hour for baggage to begin to arrive.  When I got my luggage, I texted the driver waiting to pick me up and we came back to Munster.

I spent the evening unpacking and putting everything away.  That’s one less thing to worry about tomorrow.  Now, I’m ready to sleep.  I’m hoping tomorrow goes easy on me.  On my schedule, there’s not a whole lot to worry about.  But those are just the kind of days that usually jump off the rails.

Anyway, I’m home, I had fun on the cruise, I’m unpacked, and I’m going to bed.  g’night
