The Schererville BMV Branch

Okay, okay . . . shout out, SERIOUS shout out, to the Schererville BMV branch. We’ve heard stories about horrendous lines at the different branches and/or incredibly rude employees.

This morning, after my 8:30 a.m. Mass, I left the parish (9:07 a.m.) to go to Schererville and “begin my wait.” When I got there, I went up to the machine that spits out numbers. I pushed the screen and the printer started printing out my number – 20. Before the printer finished printing, I heard someone say, “Number 20. Number 20.”

I looked up in surprise, raised the ticket in the air, and said, “I win!” Everyone starting laughing.

So, I went to my place and told him that I was there to register my new car and to transfer the plates from the old car. Fine, fine. Do you have all your paperwork? Yep.

I gave him the paperwork and he did all the things necessary to get my car registered. I paid for next year’s plate as well so when I get my registration in the mail, there will be a 2027 sticker with it.

I then asked him if it were possible to renew my driver’s license at this time. I told him that it didn’t expire until October of next year but asked if it were possible to do it early. He said sure and directed me to the seat, told me to take off my glasses, and took my picture. Then he had me do the eye test and did the paperwork for the new license. He told me it should arrive in the mail in two or three weeks from downstate.

After that, I stopped on my way back to the parish to fill the car up with gas. After filling up, I went back to the parish and got there, are your ready for this?, at 10:07 a.m.

An hour. An hour to drive to Schererville, process my registration and renew my driver’s license, and fill up my car with gas. What I thought was going to take forever only took an hour door to door.

Thank you, Schererville BMV!
