This afternoon reminded me of the fragility of our situation since Tuesday, August 11th’s derecho that came roaring into Northwest Indiana and took down a significant number of trees and, with them, power lines, power poles, and even transmission towers.
Power has been slowly restored to many parts of the communities but not without hitches. It appears that, earlier today, a major power line slipped out of its sleeve, made contact with lesser power lines, and caused a chain-reaction of explosions and power outages throughout Highland, Schererville, and St. John.
That doesn’t help the anxiety of any of us. I shared the other day that a lot of us are sitting around waiting for the other shoe to drop. When we hear about these kinds of situations, we are reminded that our power can go out again as well in an instant.
That’s enough to make the stomach churn and the nerves fray.
Hang in there folks. It will get better. Really. It will.
